Response to "Proud to Be
Blacklisted"

Being
a resident of Colrain, MA and a neighbor to the NRA @ the
Denison Ctr, N Green River Rd., East Colrain there are
local actions that can have citizenry input into the
proposed expansion of an outdoor shooting range at the NRA
facility, formerly Denison Lumber. There is a Federally
permitted range in Leyden, MA that allows the firing of Automatic
Weaponry. This range is across the river from the NRA
site.
The
proposed expansion has yet to be revealed formally.
The
NRA shooting range remains to be unposted around parameter
and as an unmarked active weapons range it puts
anyone in area at jeopardy of danger. Currently
the area of Old County road appears on area maps and
there is no indication or warning that the area is within
a firing
zone.
I
have brought this to the attention of the Colrain
selectmen and have spoken with David Celino, Manager of
the Denison Center
and regional coordinator for the NRA. Little action has
transpired since my initial inquiry earlier this Summer
2003.
I
saw the piece on the NRA blacklist and thought i would let
the local readership aware of what's happening in their
own backyard.
I haven't seen the list but wouldn't be surprised if
after my talks with the NRA spokesman and representative
that Celino hasn't himself nominated me.
In
Light, Meryl
