We're really excited to offer Valley Viewpoint subscribers an opportunity to Turn the Tide and see your environmental impact.

We've joined up with the nonprofit Center for a New American Dream to bring you the Turn the Tide program — nine simple actions almost everyone can take in their daily lives that have a measurable positive impact on the environment. AND, it is supported by online calculators that show you that impact right away.

Turn the Tide is based on the fact that what we do in our day-to-day lives makes the difference. The Center consulted with scientists and environmental experts to discover what consumer behavioral changes would have the most profound, calculable benefits for the environment. Based on their recommendations, they arrived at nine simple actions each of us can take to reduce global warming, conserve water and energy, save wildlife and forest habitats and more. Valley Viewpoint has now joined the collaboration to promote the program in the Pioneer Valley.

Add that to what members of other groups around the country are doing and we'll be taking a significant step toward building a positive future.

Can doing just nine simple things really make a difference? You bet! If you and I and 100 other Valley Viewpoint subscribers install four energy-efficient light bulbs and take a few other simple actions we will eliminate 400,000 pounds of climate-warming carbon dioxide, and save 4.8 million gallons of water, 17 trees, and 1,200 pounds of sea life … every year.
